VFN begins 3rd edition of Adolescent Boot Camp on Wednesday

A Non-Governmental Organisation based in Osun state, Value Female Network (VFN) will hold the third edition of her annual Adolescent Boot Camp (2019 ABC) between Wednesday, December 18 and Friday, December 20 this year.
A statement issued by the Director of Media of the NGO, Timothy Agbor, on Sunday revealed that the event, designed for teenage girls, will hold at Kunike International School, Oke-Ijetu area, Off Ilesa Road, Osogbo, capital of Osun state.
The boot camp tagged: Girl- Hero, according to Agbor, is totally free and will feature programmes like skill acquisitions, Female Genital Mutilation advocacy training, sexual and reproductive health and right talk, career discussions, self defence trainings and other insightful events.
Agbor said that speakers and facilitators across Nigeria and beyond have been invited to empower and motivate the participants adding that previous boot camp recorded success.
He said the event is supported by the United United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and that maximum security had been provided at the camp.
The statement reads: “Value Female Network (VFN) is a youth led Non Governmental Organisation that advocates for the rights of the girl and boy child, empower women and strive for their well being and full realisation of their potentials.
“ABC is an annual programme of VFN. It is a 3- day event where adolescent girls are camped. Trainings, accommodation and feeding will be provided for these girls in this camp free. Maximum security has been provided.
“Trainings and discussions are held in the camp on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Advocacy, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Skills Acquisition, Motivational talks, Career Talks, Film Show, with side attractions like bon fire night, group presentations etc.
“This is the third edition of this ABC and it is a special one because we are camping 500 girls unlike the 200 we used to camp. The Osun State Ministry of Education is duly carried along because female students in the state will attend. The boot camp is supported by UNFPA.
