The Osun State coordinator of the old volunteers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) Comrade Sunday Oluwaremilekun Oyedokun has said it would be a great disservice to the nation and humanity in general if the old volunteers are not considered in the recently concluded online registration of the Corp.
Oyedokun made this known in Osogbo, Osun State Capital at a meeting of the pioneer volunteers of NSCDC.
Comrade Oyedokun maintained that the volunteers who are men and women of noble character of various backgrounds have served the nation meritoriously when the civil defense Corp was merely voluntary organization.
He said it was rather unfortunate that since inception of the present regime of the NSCDC most of the pioneer volunteers were not captured and enlisted into the Corp.

The act was amended in 2007 to enhance the statutory duties of the Corp.
He noted that the old volunteers have been performing excellently well in the area of anti-vandalism, general security of the country and general maintenance of law and order.
Till date, according to him, the volunteers are seriously complimenting the efforts of regular defenders to instill discipline, law and order on members of the society at large.
The coordinator of the NSCDC volunteers however lauded the untiring efforts of the rank and file of the Corp for maintaining law and order in the country and beyond.
He stressed that the efforts of the Commandant General and the state commandants could not be relegated to the background especially in the area of anti-vandalism and the defence of the defenceless members of the general public which is evident in the recently trained NSCDC men who are carrying guns and other weapons.
Comrade Oyedokun said he would be immensely happy if a sizeable number of the old pioneer volunteers was considered and captured in the aftermath of the online registration of would be civil defender.
He also suggested that the offsprings of the old volunteers could be also considered for enlistment into the Corp should the pioneer volunteers appear too old.
Comrade Oyedokun charged authorities of the NSCDC to call upon all the coordinators of the old volunteers across the country, with a view to getting from them the authentic list of men and women who pioneered the Corp from inception.
He used the forum to felicitate with the new commandant of Osun State command of the Nigeria security and civil defense Corp Mr. Oguntunwase Adeyinka Kingsley who has just been posted to Osun State.
Comrade Oyedokun equally commended the top echelon of the NSCDC for posting an Osun State indigene in the person of Mr. Hammed Bodunrin to the Ogun State command of the NSCDC as its commandant, which he described a round peg in a round hole.
He vouched for the resourcesfulness and proactiveness of Mr. Bodunrin whose character and mode of operation is capable of lifting Ogun State command of the NSCDC to greater heights.
