The Catholic Bishop of Osogbo Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. John Oyejola has charged members of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) to be build requisite confidence needed to project their faith and witness Christ to people.
Bishop Oyejola made this known at the opening Mass of the CYON’s 10th annual Diocesan Youth Conference held at St. Kizito Catholic College, Ikirun, Osun state.
The conference holding between Friday, 17th and Sunday 19th May, 2019 had youths from the four denearies making up the diocese- Osogbo, Ile-Ife, Ilesa and Otan.
The conference was organised by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria (CCRN) in the diocese in conjunction with CYON to equip Catholic youths with necessary means of deepening their faith and being witnesses of Jesus Christ.
During the homily, the Chief Shepherd of Osogbo diocese expressed his delight to be at the programme and asked the participants to be practical and confident witnesses of Jesus Christ in the actions, words and ways of life.
The prelate while addressing the youths said, “I am happy to be in your midst. To be a witness is to have an idea, feel, know, imaging, experience can attest or defend your faith. You will be my witness in different parts of the world and communities. What is Jesus asking us to be witness of? Make it real through our behaviour.
“You know more than any of the Pentecostal but you are always timid. Strip yourselves of timidity. Develop confidence to speak of Christ in public. Develop personal confidence because it is part of witnessing. You can’t witness or project your faith without confidence. You should live the right life. Take your faith seriously.
“Come to Jesus , he is the only way. It is on Jesus you find life, not in power, sex, money, same. Money does not naturally give one happiness. We are Happy people because we have Jesus.
“If you are empty in Jesus, then you are finished. Open yourselves to the Holy Spirit and get renewed. Follow Jesus. Don’t model your life after worldly things because they are shadows. With Jesus, everything is good and everything will be fine. Don’t go home empty handed, go home and be practical witnesses to Jesus. Participate fully and actively in the programmes slated for the conference,” he said.
